What do I need to order my prescription glasses online?

You need a copy of your prescription to order Rx glasses online. If you do not have a copy of your prescription available, please visit your eye care professional who will be able to provide that for you including your pupillary distance (PD). When ordering from GUNNAR, please include your PD along with your prescription details as these are required to make an online Rx purchase.

Are GUNNAR Rx prescription glasses covered by my vision insurance?

How long will it take to receive my prescription eyeglasses?

Prescription orders take up to 21 business days to process from time of initial order. Orders will ship from our optical lab in Southern California using one of the three major carriers: UPS, USPS or Fedex. International orders may take longer due to local government and customs processing.

What does it mean if my prescription is ‘out of range’?

If you receive an ‘out of range’ message, we are unable to process your request because the prescription falls outside the limitations of our lens shape. Ranges vary by style. If your prescription is not within range for our custom program, we may not be able to accommodate your order at this time.

What is the advantage of Amber lenses?

Our custom tints tune artificial blue light to enhance the physiology of the naked eye, increasing contrast perception and shifting the color spectrum for visual efficiency. Light from energy efficient computers and overhead fluorescent lighting consists of narrow bands of high energy light instead of the equally balanced, full spectrum light the human eye prefers. Changing the color of your screen or brightness does not affect the quality of the digital light. GUNNAR lens tints filter and balance the transmitted spectrum, reducing high energy visible [HEV] light and warming the spectrum. By reducing harsh blue light, sensitive parts of the eye are engaged, increasing contrast. Filtering blue light from a backlit screen reduces visual recovery time and protects the eyes.

Are GUNNARS polarized?

Our lenses are not polarized as that can adversely affect viewing a digital device and even make the screen disappear at certain orientations. Don’t worry, though, our lenses do block damaging UV, high energy visible [HEV], and blue light as well as glare.

How will I know a pair will fit me?

Will wearing GUNNAR glasses make me dependent on them or weaken my vision?

No they won’t on both accounts. GUNNAR glasses are simply an aid to remove unneeded stress, improve vision, and they will not cause your eyesight to grow worse. The slight magnification helps eyes muscles and corrects blurry vision. The magnification simulates looking further away.

I am a designer; will the amber tint alter color?

Our proprietary Amber lens tint is tuned specifically to mimic natural light by filtering out the harsh blue light spectrum. If you work in true color and require an unaltered spectral shift, then we recommend our Clear Lens option.

Do the clear glasses have a magenta hue?

We use an Anti-Reflective (AR) coating to increase light transmission through the lens allowing for brighter, crisper image detail. We tune our AR coating and select a center for peak reflectance over certain parts of the spectrum. Our Amber tint has peak reflectance at 450nm which corresponds with the increased spike of energy in the blue part of the spectrum from digital screens, reducing strain on the eyes.

For our Clear Lens, we tune the AR coating to reflect closer to 550nm (green), hence you may perceive a slight green on the lens (less than 1% reflectance). The 550nm peak reflectance counters the results of the natural filtering from our lens material. The result is an equalized balance of light allowing for the truest color necessary for design applications.

What kind of cleaner can I use if I don’t have the GUNNAR Cleaning Kit?

Some cleaners contain alcohol which can damage the anti glare coatings. We recommend GUNNAR lens cleaner.

Can I exchange my GUNNARS for a different style?

How do I checkout with my FSA card?

Reading and prescription glasses are approved FSA purchases. Non-prescription blue light glasses are eligible with most providers, as well! You can always check with your plan administrator to confirm.
